Lumbini, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the most important spiritual sites in the world as the birthplace of Siddhartha Gautama, who later became Buddha. Located in the Rupandehi district of Nepal, about 250 km southwest of Kathmandu, Lumbini attracts pilgrims and tourists from around the world. The sacred garden covers an area of 8 square kilometers and features the exact spot where Buddha was born, ancient ruins, monasteries built by various Buddhist nations, and the sacred Bodhi tree.

The best time to visit Lumbini is from October to March when the weather is pleasant and comfortable for exploring. Avoid the hot summer months (April-June) when temperatures can exceed 40°C. The monsoon season (July-September) brings heavy rainfall but the gardens are lush and green.
Lumbini is accessible by air and road from Kathmandu, Pokhara, and the Indian border.
Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa (20 km from Lumbini) has domestic flights from Kathmandu. From the airport, take a taxi or local bus to Lumbini (30-40 minutes).
Tourist buses from Kathmandu take 8-9 hours, while from Pokhara it's 6-7 hours. Local buses and shared jeeps also operate regularly. Many visitors combine Lumbini with Chitwan as they're relatively close.
