The best time to visit Nagarkot is from October to March when skies are clearest for mountain views. October and November offer the best visibility after monsoon. Winter mornings can be cold but provide crystal-clear views. April-May can be hazy, and June-September monsoon clouds often obscure the mountains.
Nagarkot is easily accessible from Kathmandu and can be combined with Bhaktapur or Changu Narayan visits.
Direct drive from Kathmandu takes 1.5-2 hours via Bhaktapur. Most visitors hire a private car or taxi (approximately NPR 3,000-4,000 round trip).
Take a bus to Bhaktapur, explore the ancient city, then hire a local taxi to Nagarkot (30-45 minutes). This makes an excellent day trip combining both destinations.
