Practical travel advice for visiting Annapurna Circuit, Nepal — best time to visit, how to get there, daily budgets, and insider tips.
March to May & October to November (Spring & Autumn)
The best times are spring (March-May) with blooming rhododendrons and warmer weather, and autumn (October-November) with the clearest skies and mountain views. Winter brings snow to higher passes, making Thorong La dangerous or impassable. Monsoon (June-September) affects the southern slopes with rain and leeches.
The circuit traditionally starts from Besisahar or Bhulbhule, accessible from Pokhara or Kathmandu.
Take a tourist bus to Pokhara (6-7 hours), then another bus or jeep to Besisahar (5-6 hours). Alternatively, direct tourist buses from Kathmandu to Besisahar (8-9 hours).
Local buses or jeeps to Besisahar take 5-6 hours. Many trekkers now take jeeps further up to Chame or Manang to save time, though this reduces the trekking experience.
